AshantiGold SC midfielder Eric Esso was named player of the match when they lost at home to Legon Cities FC in a matchday 27 fixture of the Ghana Premier League.

The Miners suffered a 1-0 defeat at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Sunday.

A solitary strike by defender Issaka Mohammed handed the Royals the maximum points which cushions them in the relegation dogfight.

Mohammed scored the only goal of the match after pouncing on a rebound in the 39th minute following a free-kick.

Esso bossed the midfielder with his strength and energy but that weren't enough to get AshantiGold back in the game.

Cities have now leapfrogged AshantiGold on the league table with the win to the 9th position with the latter dropping to the 10th position.

AshantiGold are now just four points above the relegation zone and will be facing Asante Kotoko SC in the next round of fixtures.
