Ahmed Ould Yahya, President of the Mauritanian Football Federation, has received the symbolic flag to mark the beginning of the journey for the country to host the next U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The event in Niger marks the start of the countdown to Mauritania's hosting of the next edition of the tournament, which will be in 2021 after this year's edition ended in Niger.

Yahya received the flag from the President of CAF, Ahmad Ahmad, on Sunday during the closing ceremony of the tournament in Niger.

This will put the country in serious preparation for them to host the eight top sides from Africa in two years time.

Mali won the U20 title after beating Senegal 2-1 on penalties on Sunday night after the match and its extra time ended 1-1.

The Mali team managed to win the African Nations Cup under the age of 20, for the first time in its history, while the Nigerian team is the most crowned with 7 titles.
