Mayor of Milano: Milan sale to Arnault would not be an obstacle

The Mayor of Milano – Beppe Sala – has insisted that there are no new major developments regarding Milan and Inter's desire to build a new stadium.

The two clubs have made their intentions clear to move into the modern era by building a new state-of-the-art home, with Italian firm Manica and American giants Populous the two competing firms trying to land the project.

ANSA reported late last year that the two clubs asked for clarifications on the construction of a new stadium, one of the points being about what can or cannot be done with the existing San Siro, which at present appears to be an obstacle.

Il Corriere di Milano (via MilanNews.it) even suggested last month that the idea of moving to San Donato – around 10km south east of the city centre – is a possibility if the difficulties continue.

Sala spoke on the sidelines of a meeting with the unions at Palazzo Marino and gave an update on the situation, with his words being transcribed by MilanNews.it.

“There is no news. We are waiting to meet the teams again. They will call us, having clarified what our constraints are. At the moment there is no news,” he said.

He was even asked whether Bernard Arnault's reported interest in buying the club from Elliott Management could be an obstacle.

Sala replied: “I don't think so, but I don't know anything about it.”
