Mbappe: Zidane and Ronaldo are my two biggest role idols in football

Published on: 27 May 2020

Kylian Mbappe's two biggest heroes in football are Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The mutual appreciation between Mbappe and the Real Madrid coach has been known for some time, only adding to the speculation linking him with a move to the Spanish capital.

"First was Zidane for everything he achieved with the national team and then it was Ronaldo," Mbappe told the Daily Mirror when asked who he looked up to.

"He [Ronaldo] has won so much and still continues to be a winner even after so much success.

"They have both left their mark in the history of the game - and I want to leave my own chapter in the history books."

Although Ligue 1 has had its season ended already due to COVID-19, Paris Saint-Germain are still in the Champions League and will have to play games behind closed doors this season.

Mbappe, who played in an empty stadium against Borussia Dortmund in the last round of European fixtures, knows that the supporters will be missed.

"Fans are such an important part of the game," he explained.

"To play without them will be strange for the players.

"These are unprecedented times though and the safety of everybody must take priority."

While Mbappe would like to win the Ballon d'Or someday, he hasn't lost sight of what's most important in football - team success.

"It would be nice to win," he said when asked if he was motivated by being crowned the world's best player.

"But it is not something that keeps me awake at night. I don't think I have to win it next season or the season after - there is no time limit I have put on it.

"I will always put PSG and the national team as my priority, then if personal honours come from my performances it's a bonus."
