Medeama have rejected Karela United retaliation claims

Medeama Communication chief Patrick Akoto has rejected claims of retaliation by Karela United fans after they viciously  attacked players and damaged team bus of their rivals during a feisty MTN FA Cup clash on Sunday.

Mr Akoto has rejected the claims of the club's supporters attacking players and fans of the Pride and Passion when they visited the Akoon Park two weeks ago.

The Mauve and Yellows are alleging their players were physically manhandled by fans of Karela United during their Premier League fixture on January 31, 2021 at the Crossby Awuah Memorial Park.

The club opted to blind it in the media amid fears of a potential reprisal in Tarkwa and foster the cordiality that exist between the two side, it has emerged.

However, there was an overkill in Aiyinase after fans of the home team went berserk and attacked Medeama players and smashed the windows of their team bus.

The bloody fixture saw Medeama midfielder Eric Kwakwa needing stitches after he was hit with a stone.

Karela United officials are hanging onto claims of a possible retaliation after claiming they were mistreated by their neighbours.

But Medeama Communication chief Patrick Akoto has rejected the retaliation claims, insisting his fans are not "mad" to be attacking people at the stadium.

"It's false and claim that Karela United fans retaliated should be disregarded. Ask them what happened in Aiyinase when we played them in the league on January 31, 2021. They know how they treated our players in particular," Akoto said.

"How can there be any talk of retaliation when Medeama players suffered attacks at Aiyinase back in January?

"No one should attempt to rationalize the behaviour of the supporters . It was unfortunate and should never happen again.

"Indeed, Medeama fans are not mad to be going about attacking visiting teams. They (Karela) know the root cause of all this.

"We (Medeama) are not happy with the turn of event as we hold no grudges against Karela United. We are hopeful leadership of the two teams will find a truce to this growing tension between the two teams."

The match has been overshadowed by massive crowd violence which has rocked the famous Cup competition.

Prince Opoku Agyemang opened the scoring in the first half, capitalizing on a defensive howler to give the visitors the lead.

Ebenezer Ackahbi increased the tally with a superb finish before Diawisie Taylor pulled one back for the visitors.

However, its the massive crowd trouble which has gained inches in the local media with a reported irate siege by the home fans.

Referee Philip Arthur-Forson  was forced to delay the match on two occasions following  the marauding attacks from the home fans.

Medeama midfielder Eric Kwakwa was hit with a stone as he made his way to the tunnel after the first half.

Military men detailed at the venue are had a torrid time to control the home supporters in a highly volatile atmosphere at Aiyinase.

The match was held up several times with fans throwing missiles onto the pitch.

The military has been forced onto the pitch to protect life and property in what has been a an extraordinary scenes at Aiyinase.

Some journalists were  denied entry into the stadium with the game delayed closed to 30 minutes into the second half.
