Medeama-Kessben shock Kotoko in league opener, Hearts win

Medeama-Kessben served notice of their intention to cause a stir in the Ghana top flight this season when they stunned giants Asante Kotoko 1-0 in Kumasi on Sunday.

The club, currently owned by businessman Moses Armah, who took over from the original owners rougly two months ago shocked the Porcupine Warriors with a second half goal.

Richard Mpong's strike after the break condemned Kotoko to the defeat at the Baba Yara Stadium, sparking massive frenzy in Tarkwa where Medeama Kessben will be based when the Ghana FA ratifies their switch.

The first matches of the new season recorded seven wins and a draw with Asante Kotoko as the only home side to have lost on the opening day of the Ghanaian top flight. The opening day produced 11 goals from seven match centres.

Playing the day's final game, Kotoko's late kick off against Kessben produced all the ingredients of an exciting campaign as the Porcupine Warriors lost 0-1 to Bashir Hayford's side.

Aduana FC's title defence started on a good note as a deflected Bernard Dong-Bortey strike earned the champions a 1-0 victory against Real Tamale United.

Debutants B.A. Stars won their first game in the topflight, beating Heart of Lions 1-0.

Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin guided Hearts of Oak to pick all three points against King Faisal.

Striker Osei Pele lived up to his billing as a star to watch this season when he scored from close range in the first half to hand the Phobians a 1-0 win at the Ohene Djan Stadium.

In Wa, All Stars strolled to a 2-0 victory over Liberty professionals while premiership returnees Ebusua Dwarfs earned a 1-0 win over debutants Mighty Jets at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast.

Stephen Manu bagged the season's first hat-trick to help New Edubiase thump Berekum Arsenals 3-1, a result which sees the Obuasi side go top of the standings.

Chelsea and AshantiGold shared the spoils in a goalless drawn game at the Coronation Park.
