WAFU winning coach of the female national team, the Black Queens, Mercy Tagoe requested for a head coach ahead of the Africa Women's Cup of Nations.

According to CAF/FIFA liaison team spokesperson, Dan Kweku Yeboah, the former Black Queens player now coach of the team requested that a substantive head coach be named as she resigns to her duties as assistant.

On Monday, it was reported that Ebusua Dwarfs coach Bashiru Hayford has been appointed head coach of the Black Queens to the dismay of many fans of the team.

However, Dan Kwaku Yeboah insists Mercy Tagoe called of the appointment of the former Asante Kotoko gaffer.

“The truth of the matter is that Mercy Tagoe herself requested that a head Coach will be appointed ahead of the Africa Women’s Championship,” he told Ghanasportsonline.com.

“There was no way the Liaison team would have appointed any head Coach without the approval of Mercy Tagoe.

“We wanted to give her the liberty to lead the team but she insisted she needed a head Coach and for that matter a more experienced one.

“There were suggestions made and we settled on Coach Bashiru Hayford which Mercy Tagoe gave her consents to as the best she can work with at the moment that led to the appointment of Bashiru Hayford.”

Coach Bashiru Hayford has experience in handling the female national team's after leading the Black Princesses to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.

He has alsocoached Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Ashgoald in the Ghana Premier League.
