Meteors rain goals on Deportivo in friendly win

Published on: 06 July 2011

Ghana's U-23 team have beaten Kumasi-based Deportivo 4-0 in a friendly match as they continue preparations ahead of their crunch All Africa Games second leg tie against Nigeria this weekend.

Goals from Chelsea youth player David Opoku, Dominic Adiyiah, Samuel Inkoom (penalty) and Latif Salifu ensured the Black Meteors finished the friendly played on Wednesday morning on a high.

However the team failed to put more gloss on their emphatic win with striker Ben Acheampong missing a penalty.

The fact that the team scored goals which will be much needed this weekend without any concessions is a plus to the talented team and will go a long way to boost morale against Nigeria's Dream Team V in Kumasi.

Ghana is hoping to overturn a 3-1 deficit suffered at the hands of Nigeria a fortnight ago in Benin City.

This is a welcome friendly match for the Black Meteors. It is a step in a right direction to play a friendly match like of that sort in order to psyche yourself for the main match. Having been able to score as many goals as four it will help the team to remain focused and ever ready for Sunday's match. Once again, i would like to encourage the Black Meteors to let hunger for success and fighting spirit be their hall mark so they can take their destiny into their own hands to win the match. What's more? i would like to encourage Coach Akwasi to be on his feet and to shout out instructions to the team when ever they are loosing concentration. Ghanaian soccer fans must rally behind the Meteors morally and spiritually and i hope victory will crown all their efforts.
