Mexico-based Clifford Aboagye eyes debut Ghana call-up under CK Akonnor

Ghanaian midfielder Clifford Aboagye has set his sights on getting his maiden call-up to the Black Stars under new coach Charles Akonnor.

Aboagye burst onto the scene at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey where he won the Bronze ball, losing the overall best player award to Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and the second best to Uruguay’s Nicolas Lopez.

The petit midfielder is yet to represent Ghana at senior level despite his exploits in the Mexican LIGA MX with Querétaro FC.

He has however not given up hope of playing for the four-time Africa after declaring his eagerness to earn his maiden call-up under new coach Charles Akonnor.

“Of course, I know he is a young coach, and of course I know he will be looking into the young players," Aboagye said on YFM Kumasi.

“I know he is based in Accra and I know he has watched me play so am still working hard, am still playing, and am just waiting for my opportunity because I know, am not going to disappoint Ghanaians if I get the opportunity to play for the Black Stars”.

Clifford Aboagye additionally acknowledged the ingenuity of Black Stars coach CK Akonnor, imploring the Ghanaian tactician to end Ghana’s 38-year trophy drought.

“Well, I believe he is a very good coach, I think looking at where he has coached, I believe he can do the job because he has worked with most of the boys."

“I think he did a very good job in Kotoko, he has played in the national team, he has been there and I know he has the zeal of doing the job."

“I think, sometimes it is about getting the right person who is ready to work and for me, if he is ready to work and be ready to manage his players and will be doing his things right, I believe strongly that he can win the trophy."
