Ghana star midfielder Michael Essien is backing Chelsea to win silverware this season and perpetuate their presence in Europe.Ã
The 31-year-old who left Chelsea last season to join AC Milan after an eight-and-half season spell at the Stamford Bridge won a double Premier League title and one Champions League title with the club.
Essienà was originally signed by current Blues boss Jose Mourinho during his first stint in charge of the club in a ã24.4million deal from Lyon.
"I think theyââ¬â¢ll do well as always," Essien told FIFAââ¬â¢s official website.
"Jose has rebuilt the team in his own image now and theyââ¬â¢ll fight for everything this season. They have the ability to win things and thatââ¬â¢s what theyââ¬â¢ll be doing.
"Chelsea have become a football force in Europe in the last ten years and I can see that carrying on for the next ten years or more."
Essien has struggled to command a regular role at Milan since arriving last season.
