English-born of Ghanaian descent Brenden Weridu Sarpong has revealed that his role model is Michael Essien and will want to follow in the footsteps of the former Chelsea star.

The 21-year-old midfielder said the former Ghana International is worth emulating after his remarkable career playing to the highest level in world football.

Michael Essien played in the Premier League for Chelsea, winning a lot of trophies including the UEFA Champions League title in 2012.

The former Olympique Lyon star also had stints with Real Madrid and AC Milan, two of Europe's best teams.

The youngster said Michael Essien versatility on the field is worthy of emulating thus his reason for choosing the Ghanaian superstar.

“I want to emulate Michael Essien”, he told Happy FM.

“He (Essien) was here playing for Chelsea before moving to Real Madrid. He played to the highest level and is someone I would like to replicate in my career”.

Brenden Weridu Sarpong  plays for England League Two side Colchester United.

He joined the League Two side from Charlton Athletic in the summer.
