Michael Essien to be handed new Chelsea deal

Published on: 26 May 2012

Ghana ace Michael Essien will be offered a new contract at Chelsea, according to reports in England.

The future of the 29-year-old has been at the centre of intense speculations after Salomon Kalou and Jose Bosingwa were shown the exit in the aftermath of  their Uefa Champions League triumph over Bayern Munich.

It had been widely reported in the English media that the Chelsea ace will follow Florent Malouda and Paulo Ferreira out of the door.

But Chief Executive Ron Gourlay has announced that it his intention to tie down the Ghanaian super star to a new deal.

Essien struggled with injuries this season and was an unused substitute in the Champions League final last week.
