Ghana World Cup campaign has been handed a massive boost as influential midfielder Michael Essien joins the Black Stars training camp on Friday.

The Chelsea star has been a major doubt for the next month’s tournament in South Africa because after suffering a serious knee injury at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

He was expected to be out for only six weeks but this has extended to four months which has been a major worry for the Ghana FA (GFA) and the huge followers of the Black Stars.

But according to the Ghana FA, it is now expecting the Chelsea star midfielder to join camp in France on Friday to complete the full list of 30 players called in the preliminary squad.

Essien is desperate to join his colleagues in the camp in Paris but Chelsea medical doctors and their Ghanaian counterpart have been engaged in talks for the best interest of the player.

This is to ensure he is fully recovered from the injury before he takes to the field.

Essien’s willingness to join the Black Stars shows the eagerness of the players to seal their places in the national team for the biggest sporting event in the world.

His presence is a massive confidence boost for the Black Stars as they seek a second round place but they have to face Serbia, Australia and Germany in the group phase of the tournament.
