Mihajlovic: I couldn't stop Lukaku, even in a boxing ring with illegal punches

Romelu Lukaku's brace against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League was a sign of his quality in front of goal, although it has done little to guarantee Inter a spot in the knockout phase of the Champions League, yet Sinisa Mihajlovic has admitted even he couldn't stop the Belgian in a boxing ring with illegal punches.

The comments came in the build-up to the domestic meeting between the Serbian's Bologna side and Inter on Saturday evening, with Lukaku's goals having helped the Nerazzurri up to second in Serie A just behind their local rivals, AC Milan.

"I wouldn't have been able to stop Lukaku," Mihajlovic explained in his pre-match press conference.

"He's stronger, bigger and faster than me. Maybe I could have stopped him in the ring, but not without illegal punches, and they aren't allowed on the football pitch. I just wouldn't have known what to do."

Lukaku has already hit 11 goals this term with seven coming in the league and four in the Champions League, whilst he has also helped by contributing two assists in 12 games this term.

The match comes at a difficult time for Mihajlovic, as Bologna sit 10th in the table, but with an alarmingly poor defensive record which has seen them concede at least one goal in 41 consecutive matches.

"This statistic doesn't worry me," he added.

"I always go out to score one more goal than the opponent. I play to win."
