Mikel Arteta has hailed Arsenal ability to 'win ugly' following their crucial victory over West Ham at London Stadium.

The Gunners weren't at their free-flowing best on Sunday but found a way past the Hammers through goals from defensive pairing Rob Holding and Gabriel.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the win - which sees Arsenal go back up to fourth in the Premier League table - Arteta said:

"We didn't concede goals, but we didn't play well. If I have to analyse the game I would say that we won ugly.

"Today we won ugly, and big teams find a way to win ugly when they don't play their best and today we were really poor. We lacked the composure and dominance to play the game that we wanted to play, but we found a way through set pieces, through defending extremely well and not conceding anything apart from the goal.

"To win here away from home against West Ham, it's a credit to the boys. They showed the spirit that we have."

Arteta also took the time to praise the performance of Holding, who scored his second league career goal in the win:

"He was great, he was man of the match. He scored a goal and his contribution overall, when he plays, when he doesn’t play. When he needs to play five minutes or a start he’s always there."
