Ghanaian midfielder Aminu Abdallah has joined American top-flight side the Vancouver Whitecaps after excelling on trials with the Canada-based club.

Ghanaian midfielder Aminu Abdallah has joined American top-flight side  the Vancouver Whitecaps after excelling on trials with the Canada-based club. 

Abdallah, 19 arrives in Vancouver, who play in the Major League Soccer (MLS), after five seasons with Ghanaian club International Allies FC.

The native of Accra, Ghana, is a member of Ghana's U-20 side and played with fellow Caps midfielder Gershon Koffie from 2008 to 2010 with International Allies FC.

While on trial with Whitecaps FC, Abdallah appeared in and started six matches, and registered one goal and one assist in reserve matches and scrimmages.

"Aminu is a big, young, powerful player with huge potential," said Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie.

"He is a left-footed box-to-box player who can bring a lot to the team with his ability to win balls in the air and connect passes."

Before joining Vancouver, Abdallah trained with several major European sides, including Italy's Juventus, Russia's CSKA Moscow, and the Netherlands' PSV Eindhoven.

"I am very excited to join Whitecaps FC," added Abdallah. "I am going to work hard and try my best to make the club and fans proud."
