Mohammed Awal's return helps Maritzburg to halt losing streak

Published on: 19 December 2012

Ghana defender Mohammed Awal returned from suspension to help Maritzburg United to a 1-1 draw with Pretoria University on Tuesday.

The draw brings to an end the three-game losing run of 'The Team of Choice' in the South African top flight.

Maritzburg's poor run coincidentally, was in the absence of the ex Asante Kotoko player.

Coach Ernst Middendorp's defence has been troubled since the sending off of the 24-year-old in the home loss to Ajax Cape Town.

Awal's return thus serves a massive boost for the side as they look to push on for a top four finish.

The former Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord and Kotoko player has been named in Ghana's provisional 26-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Fellow Ghanaian Frank Sarfo-Gyamfi remained on the bench for the home draw on Tuesday.
