Mohammed Kudus: Ajax maestro makes 60 player shortlist for the 2020 Golden Boy Award

Ajax  wonderkid Mohammed Kudus has been named in a 60-man shortlist for the prestigious 2020 Golden Boy Award.

The Ghana international made the cut after his impressive displays in the Danish Superliga for Nordsjaelland.

Italian newspaper Tuttosport came up with the award in 2003 to reward the best young player (under the age of 21) in Europe.

Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart was the first winner 17 years ago and the former Tottenham Hotspur man was followed by Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas and Sergio Aguero.

In recent times, Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling, Kylian Mbappe and Matheus de Ligt have all won the award.

Kudus, 19, scored nine league goals in 22 appearances in the Danish Superliga before switching to Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam.

Tuttosport has reduced the shortlist for the Golden Boy 2020 to sixty people. Six Dutch players are eligible for the prestigious prize for young talents, which was won in 2018 by Matthijs de Ligt.

After Sepp van den Berg (Liverpool) and Jayden Braaf (Manchester City) have left, six Dutch players are left: Mitchel Bakker (Paris Saint-Germain), Myron Boadu (AZ), Lutsharel Geertruida (Feyenoord), Ryan Gravenberch ( Ajax), Mohamed Ihattaren (PSV) and Joshua Zirkzee (Bayern Munich). Almere-born Ajax player Sergiño Dest has also been nominated: he has, however, opted for an international career on behalf of the United States.
