Rennes president Nicolas Holveck claims Real Valladolid defender Mohammed Salisu is torn between his club and English side Southampton.

The French outfit, which is back in the hunt for the Ghanaian centre-back , have reportedly reached an agreement with the Spanish side.

However, Rennes are yet to agree personal terms with the defender.

Southampton have been strongly linked with a move for the in-demand centre-back but Rennes are hoping to steal a march off the English side for the services of the player.

Initially, Rennes pulled out of the race but have been forced to return to the negotiation table after failing to land Genk defender  Jhon Lucumi.

And Rennes president  Nicolas Holveck claims the Ghanaian is torn between France and England.

“It shows that the project is interesting for the players. Even if the Premier League is attractive, it makes you think,” Holveck commented while stating Salisu is hesitant.

Southampton have identified the 21-year-old as a long-term replacement for Jack Stephens.

Salisu, who has a £10 million release clause, is also being targeted by Everton.
