Montella: No regrets on taking Sampdoria job

Sampdoria coach Vincenzo Montella insists no regret in joining club after Coppa Italia elimination to AC Milan.

Goals from M’Baye Niang and Carlos Bacca ended their cup run on the second return for former coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.

“We had a great first half, playing with confidence, compactness and enthusiasm,” Montella told Rai Sport post match.

“We did well in our defending but less so in attack, we have grown a lot this season and wanted to go through tonight.”

The Blucerchiati will play their final game of the year this weekend, welcoming Palermo to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

“I don’t regret my choice in coming here, I am fully aware of the difficulties and this stimulates me,” he continued.

“The match tonight has provided me with confidence, it takes time to bring forward new ideas and philosophies.

“I thought we played well tonight, we need to keep this up and maintain our concentration for the whole game.”

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has enticed exciting players to Italy and could do so again in January.

“The club will try to take advantage of opportunities in the market, but we are strong” Montella concluded.
