Montella: Sampdoria must concentrate against Napoli

Published on: 23 January 2016

Sampdoria coach Vincenzo Montella praised his upcoming opponents Napoli for their performances as they sit top of Serie A.

The Blucerchiati are keen to react after they lost away to Carpi and the coach wants to see focus from his players.

“It’s nice to see Napoli where they are at the moment but as a coach you’re only focused on your own team,” said Montella to reporters.

“I expect them to be very pumped up, [Maurizio] Sarri has a very strong squad and the energy from the away fans will be key.

“To play a big team is energising but difficult, although I am sure that the boys will be concentrated tomorrow. I saw they were angry after the defeat in Modena.”

The fixture will also see Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain and Samp’s Eder take to the pitch as the top two scorers in Serie A meet.

“Higuain and Eder are players with very different characteristics which in some ways are complimentary and I think they could play together,” Montella went on.

“I am satisfied with the work Eder has been doing in recent weeks.”
