Montella: Sampdoria were the better team despite losing to Inter

Sampdoria coach Vincenzo Montella believes his side were the superior team in their 3-1 defeat to Inter at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday evening.

The result leaves the Blucerchiati hovering just three points clear of safety, with Frosinone and Carpi still to play this weekend.

“There is little to add after a performance like that,” Montella told Rai Sport.

“We were superior to Inter in all aspects, but Inter was optimistic against our defence.

“The performance, however, remains, and it should give us the conviction to continue.”

The Blucerchiati’s backline has been the side’s Achilles heel for much of the season but Montella does not believe that they are suffering as a unit.

“Inter have scored two goals from set-pieces and the other off a naive break which we have granted,” he added.

“For the rest of the team they gave the impression of not suffering and it is difficult to comment on events of this type.”
