Former AshGold forward Yakubu Mohammed has backed the Miners to raise their game when they take on Algerian side M.O Bejaia on Valentine’s Day.

AshGold will make their first appearance in the CAF Champions League this coming Sunday when they take on M.O Bejaia who are placed 4th on the Algerian League table.

Coach Bashiru Hayford’s side have been uninspiring in preseason with key players like Eric Opoku, Osei Baffour and even experienced Tijani Joshua all looking out of form.

Defeats to Bechem United and Medeama has done little to inspire confidence.

But Yakubu Mohammed says he is certain the Miners will respond.

“I know that in football there are challenges but I am sure the occasion will get the players to respond,” Mohammed said

“The players are good and they have shown that they can respond so I see them coming up on tops this weekend.’”
