Mortagbe facing Fifa axe over forgery scandal

Neil Armstrong Mortagbe could be sacked from his position as a Fifa marketing instructor if it is proven that he has been indulged in forgery.

Mortagbe could also be banned from all football-related activities worldwide if he is convicted for falsifying the signatures of five club chairmen in Ghana.

The Ghana FA presidential aspirant, who works with Fifa by advising African FAs over their marketing structures, is facing Nima police action over the allegations.

Mortagbe will be arrested by the police for allegedly forging the signatures of five of his nominees in his papers to contest the Ghana FA elections.

The revelation will cost him his position as a Fifa marketing instructor if he proven to have forged the signatures and a complaint is lodged with the world governing body.

“Only those persons who demonstrate a high degree of ethics and integrity and pledge to observe the provisions of this Code without reservation are eligible to serve as of?cials,” the Fifa code of ethics state.

“Persons with a criminal record are not eligible if the offence is incompatible

with their ability to perform their duties.

“Of?cials who do not comply with this Code or severely fail to ful?l, or inadequately exercise, their duties and responsibilities, particularly in ?nancial matters, are no longer eligible and shall be removed from of?ce.”

Fifa used its code of ethics to axe disgraced Nigerian administrator Amos Adamu from its executive committee for seeking cash in exchange of World Cup hosting votes.

He has been banned from all football-related activities worldwide following the scandal that engulfed him late last year.

Medeama SC official Mohammed Alhassan reported Mortagbe to the Nima police for allegedly falsifying his signature in Ghana FA presidential elections nomination forms.

The Nima police has now written to the GFA seeking to examine the nomination papers of Mortagbe over signature forgery claims.

Ten clubs must endorse the candidature of an aspirant before the elections committee of the GFA can clear someone to stand the federation’s presidential elections.

The Fifa marketing instructor was disqualified from the race on Thursday for failing to meet the requirements to stand this month’s election.

Mortagbe only provided the initials of club officials of Medeama SC, Wassaman United, Deportivo, Bofoakwa and Great Olympics as part of his ten nominees.

The five clubs denied to have approved his candidature for the coveted position when contacted by the election committee which prompted his disqualification.

Meanwhile, Mortagbe has sent a high-powered delegation led by King Faisal chief Alhaji Grunsah to plead with Alhassan to withdraw the Fifa action.

“Neil has sent people like Alhaji Grunsah to plead with me to stop the police action and I am still undecided on what to do,” Alhassan said.
