Mourinho names Ronaldo Nazario the best player he's ever seen

Jose Mourinho believes neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Lionel Messi are the best players to have ever graced the game.

The Portuguese and Argentine duo have ruled the globe with their mesmerising football prowess for more than a decade.

But Tottenham manager Mourinho believes that Cristiano's namesake, Ronaldo Nazario, eclipses both the Juventus and Barcelona stars.

The Portuguese saw the teenage Ronaldo Nazario's talent first-hand when he worked as an interpreter for Bobby Robson at Barcelona, and believes a series of injuries curtailed his talent and prevented him for reaching even greater heights.

When asked the question about the game's greatest talent on LiveScore, Mourinho replied: 'Ronaldo, El Fenomeno. Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi have had longer careers, they have remained at the top every day for 15 years.

'However, if we are talking strictly about talent and skill, nobody surpasses Ronaldo [Nazario]. When he was at Barcelona with Bobby Robson, I realised that he was the best player I'd ever seen take to the field.

'Injuries killed a career that could have been even more incredible, but the talent that that 19-year-old boy had was something incredible.'

The Brazilian striker won the World Cup twice, as well as two Ballon d'Or trophies during a glittering career representing La Liga rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Ronaldo Nazario scored 414 career goals for the seven clubs - which also included Inter Milan and AC Milan - and the nation he played for, but a Champions League medal evaded him.

Only Pele has managed more than his 62 Brazil goals, but he could soon be overtaken in second by Neymar, who is currently sat on 57.
