Jose Mourinho has turned down the chance to coach Serie A club Roma.

The 52-year-old was sacked by Premier League champions Chelsea on Thursday, opening the door on a return to Italy.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Portuguese coach was targeted as a possible successor to current boss Rudi Garcia, as the pressure continues to mount on the Frenchman, but has politely declined the offer.

Mourinho won the treble with Inter during the 2009/10 season and it is believed the former Real Madrid coach is reluctant to take charge at another Italian club, despite stating he would not be taking time out of the game and is ready for a fresh challenge.

Luciano Spalletti remains the most likely choice for the Giallorossi hierarchy should they decide to call time on Garcia’s reign.
