Former Manchester United manager David Moyes insists nothing less than a top four finish will be acceptable for the Red Devils this season.

Moyes was axed as United boss towards the end of the 2013/14 Premier League season after failing to guide the Red Devils to a European place.

The Scotsman believes current manager Louis van Gaal is facing a similar pressure, with United sitting in fifth place on the Premier League ladder, six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

"I knew Manchester United need to qualify for the Champions League. I think Manchester United need to be there," Moyes told Sky Sports' Goals on Sunday.

"They are a club of status and want to be at that level, if not more. They want to be winning it if they can, never mind qualifying for it.

"That's what happens at Manchester United. It's that level."
