Muller & Bayern reach agreement in principle over a new deal till 2023 (Bild)

The club and the player have agreed on the duration of the new contract. Now it’s only the salary that needs to be hammered out.

According to a new report by Bild, Bayern Munich and Thomas Muller have agreed on a two year contract extension. With agreement on the salary still pending, Muller is set to remain with the Bavarians until 2023.

This news will come as a relief to the club faithful — and a sign that contract negotiations with key players are proceeding as planned.

The main question is whether Bayern will raise Müller’s salary.

Müller is believed to earn approximately €15 million per year. If Bayern puts him alongside Robert Lewandowski at the very top of the hierarchy, there is nothing to stand in the way of an agreement for two years.

Bild speculates, however, that Bayern and Müller could agree to an additional year, seeing him under contract through 2024, if Müller’s wages remain the same.
