Nicosia: Jordanian international Musa Al Taamari was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2018/19 Cyprus Championship at the PASP Football Awards on Thursday.

The 21-year-old forward, who began his professional career at Shabab Al Ordon, made his move to APOEL FC of the Cypriot First Division in May 2018, and his performance has been impressive, scoring nine goals as the Nicosia-based club clinched their 28th domestic title.

Al Taamari was also announced as the best striker in the league, with teammates Lucas Souza and Nicholas Ioannou the best midfielder and defender respectively.

In his acceptance speech, Al Taamari said: "It was very difficult for me to change countries but with the help of the club officials and my teammates, I gradually felt better and stronger.

"Cyprus and APOEL was my chance to go higher. I thank the team who supported me and those who voted for me. And of course my father who is here with me."
