‘My players listen to me’ – Kotoko coach Karim Zito opens up on secret behind team’s improvement

Interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has opened up about the secret behind the team’s improvement since he took charge.

The former Dreams FC was appointed to lead the Porcupine Warriors last month after the team went four matches without a win.

After coming on board, Asante Kotoko are now four games unbeaten, having won three and drawn the other one.

Speaking in a post-match interview after Kotoko’s 4-1 win over Dreams FC on Sunday, Coach Abdul Karim Zito noted that he has seen a lot of improvement in the team.

He argued that this has been possible because players listen to his instructions.

“There have been a lot of improvements. I’ve seen a lot of improvement. They give me their listening ear. Anytime I talk to them, they listen,” Coach Zito said.

The interim head coach of Asante Kotoko added, “They are grownups, some with wives and children, so that is where the management criteria comes in. You don’t have to be shouting all the time. Seriously, they enjoy training with me. I’m like their father. We all joke, but I’ve been advising them.”

Coach Zito is determined to win a trophy with Asante Kotoko at the end of the 2024/25 football season.

Although the club has a chance to win the Ghana Premier League title, it will be easier to clinch the MTN FA Cup where the team is scheduled to play against lower-division side Golden Kick in the finals.
