Nantes striker Abdul Majeed Waris fancies gatecrashing Ghana's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations squad.

The 27-year-old, who has 31 caps under his belt, is yet to make an appearance at the continent's flagship tournament.

The former BK Hacken star has rejuvenated at French side Nantes since he joined on loan from FC Porto.

But the striker faces stiff competition from star man Asamoah Gyan, struggling Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew and highly-rated Levante frontman Emmanuel Boateng.

But he is hopeful he can do enough to make tthe final cut  for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

"My dream of playing at the Nations Cup's been on hold because I've been unfortunate with injuries in the past," Waris told BBC Sport.

"We have quality players in the national team and everyone will be fighting hard to earn a spot.

"There are six important months between now and the tournament, so the hard work starts when the season resumes in France.

"I have put the tough injury past behind me and I now play with so much positivity."

The player's career has been affected by injuries forcing him out of the 2015 and 2017 tournaments.
