Napoli consider Chelsea forward as an alternative option

Napoli are looking at Chelsea forward Diego Costa as an alternative to Inter’s Mauro Icardi.

The 27-year-old Spain international has been put up for sale by Antonio Conte’s new side seeing as Romelu Lukaku has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge.

According to Il Mattino, the Partenopei have identified Costa as a back-up option following delays in talks for Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca, Fiorentina’s Nikola Kalinic and prime target Icardi.

One potential stumbling block could be Costa’s high salary of €6 million per season despite his current club’s willingness to let him leave over the summer.

Costa made 27 appearances and scored 12 goals while notching up six assists during a disappointing season for Chelsea as the west London club failed to qualify for the Champions League.
