Napoli are reportedly keen on luring Fiorentina midfielder Matias Vecino to the Stadio San Paolo.

The Uruguayan impressed under Maurizio Sarri at Empoli last season and has returned to Florence and formed an impressive partnership with Milan Badelj at the heart of Paulo Sousa’s four-man midfield.

Depth has been an issue for Sarri at his new employers this term and the ex-Empoli boss is said to be keeping a watchful eye on the 24-year-old as Napoli mount an assault on the Scudetto according to Tuttosport.

However, Vecino revealed earlier in the season that he views Fiorentina as his future, with Sousa showing great trust in the South American.

The source also reports that Atletico Madrid have been impressed by Vecino’s displays this season, and will lodge a bid in January as Diego Simeone looks to bolster his midfield options.

The 24-year-old has made 13 appearances for the Viola as they go into Christmas one point behind leaders Inter.
