Kathmandu: The first ever AFC ‘A’ Coaching Certificate Course in Nepal is currently underway with 24 coaches taking part in the programme that will run until May.
The course consists of two parts – Part I from March 25 to April 6, which deals with practical sessions, and Part II from May 9 to 21, during which the participants will be taking assessments and examinations.
“I am confident that our coaches will benefit a lot from this course and I am extremely delighted that the course is being held in Nepal for the first time,” said All Nepal Football Association Acting President Narendra Shrestha.
“Here, we have all the renowned faces of Nepali football and you are ones who will be taking Nepali football to greater heights in the future. We officials come and go, but you are the ones who will be involved in football forever. So, I would like to extend my best wishes for the success of the course.
“Over the past few months, Nepali coaches have proven that you are at par with foreign coaches. Please don’t feel inferior when we hire foreign coaches. Actually we have done that for your benefit because they bring new ideas of international football, which will eventually benefit you all.”
FIFA/AFC Coaching Instructor Vincent Subramanian of Singapore, who is delivering the course, has said: “I have been observing Nepali football closely since 2001 when the FIFA Grassroots Programme was initiated here. The resounding success that Nepal has achieved in international football is a sign that some good work is being carried out here.”
He also praised the progress made by two former national team captains in their foray into the football coaching world.
“I am pleased to learn about Upendra Man Singh’s active involvement in grassroots in Nepal. FIFA is pleased to see the ground work being conducted here.
“Last time when I came here, I was quite impressed to see Bal Gopal Maharjan conducting trainings and I am happy to learn that most of the players in the national team today are his students. My best wishes to all the participants.”
