Neuer equals Kahn's record: Which one is the greatest?

Published on: 21 January 2021

Manuel Neuer reached Oliver Kahn's Bundesliga clean sheets record of 196 after Bayern Munich's 1-0 victory over Augsburg on Wednesday night.

The victory was the first time in 11 matches that Bayern have not conceded and, after the game, Neuer praised their defensive resilience as he equalled the record:

"It is special because we achieved the three points alongside the record," he said.

"Our whole defensive line put in a lot of effort.

"We hardly gave them clear opportunities and, therefore, we deserved it."

On Instagram, he posted a photo of his achievement, alongside Oliver Kahn.

"The result of our incredible defensive work," read the caption.

Neuer was recently named Best Goalkeeper of the Decade, but the question over who is the greater goalkeeper between him or Kahn is less straightforward.

Kahn, now a director at Bayern, was cat-like between the posts and was chosen as the best player of the 2002 World Cup, ahead of Ronaldo.

However, Neuer has equalled his predecessor's record in 115 fewer games, has a World Cup winner's medal to his name and revolutionised his position by introducing the sweeper-keeper role.

So, have your say below. Who is the greater goalkeeper?
