Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, George Amoako has promised to transform the team into a force to reckon with on the continent by signing star African players to rival the likes of Al-Ahly, Zamalek and TP Mezembe.

The former GHALCA Vice Chairman was appointed the C.EO of the club by Dr. Kwamw Kyei on Tuesday and one of the fdirst targets of Mr. Amoako is to bring in top African stars to the club.

George Amoako heads a newly constituted 11-member management team. This gives the GHALCA treasurer enough powers to steer the club along his vision.

Amoako however says one of his priorities at the club is to ensure the signing of quality players that is capable of roughing shoulders with some of the best clubs on the African continent.

“It is important that the playing material is up to scratch,” he told FootballmadeinGhana.com.

“Kotoko should not be looking at competing [in the transfer market] only locally.

“We have to think about how do you play a team like Al Ahly and beat them, how do you play a team like TP Mazembe and beat them, how do you play a team like Zamalek and beat them as it used to be the case some years ago.

“We are miles apart from those teams as we speak. So you have to do massive top quality recruitment to be able to bridge the gap. And we need to do it.”

Asante Kotoko remain the most successful club in the Ghana Premier League but have been unable to make any meaningful impact on the African continent in over a decade.
