Newcastle 'eyeing January move for Man United starlet Brandon Williams'

Published on: 03 December 2020

Newcastle United are poised to make a January move for Manchester United defender Brandon Williams, with the youngster set to be made available for loan.

Manager Steve Bruce is hoping to pull strings at his former club and win the race for the highly rated 20-year-old, who burst onto the scene last season.

Newcastle are keeping a close eye on the situation, and Bruce will use his strong rapport with former Old Trafford team-mate Mike Phelan and current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to get the deal done, as report Chronicle Live.

Newcastle will be rivaled by Ralph Hasenhuttl's high-flying Southampton, who currently sit sixth in the Premier League after 10 matches played.

Defensive arrivals at Old Trafford in the summer, including the likes of Alex Telles, has seen Williams pushed down the pecking order.

The youngster was set to be retained this season for cup competitions, and has featured twice in the EFL Cup along with one appearance in the Champions League.

Yet with just one Premier League outing to his name so far this term, United are keen to get the 20-year-old playing regular domestic football at elite level.

United have made clear to all interested parties that Williams is only available for a straight loan deal, without any additional purchase options.

The Red Devils hold their local star in high regard, and see him as a big talent for the future at Old Trafford.

Williams' current deal with United runs until 2024, after the youngster signed a lucrative extension in August of this year.
