Newcastle United midfielder Christian Atsu faces exit as contract expires in 2021

Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu's contract is set to expire next summer and the Ghanaian International must improve upon his performance to warrant an extension.

The 28-year old has been inconsistent with his performance this season and has made only 18 appearances in the Premier League.

Newcastle United coach Steve Bruce is keen to allow the ex-Chelsea player leave should the team receive a good offer for the Ghanaian International, according to reports in England.

Atsu has failed to command a regular starting berth for his side since the departure of Raphael Benitez last season after been an instrumental figure in their promotion to the Premier League.

He has been surplus to requirement, making appearances in only FA and Carabao Cup games for the Magpies.

The former Porto star was offered to Championship side West Brom in the January transfer window which he declined.

Christian Atsu must prove his worth to warrant a contract extension when his deal expires.

He has made over 105 appearances which is more than he managed at the previous seven clubs he was at (89).
