Former Newcastle United midfielder Jonas Gutierrez has decided to sue his former club over the way he was treated following his testicular cancer diagnosis.
Gutierrez claims that he was told he did not feature in the club's plans in December 2013, just two months after cancer surgery. This news came as a 'great shock' to the Argentine, who believes the decision was made solely becuase of his cancer diagnosis.
The 32-year-old also claims that the club deliberately did not start him in the final games of the 2014/15 season, as to not trigger an extension in his conract - which would have activated after 80 starts, Gutierrez ultimately left on 78.
