Christian Atsu says he is ready to show the world he is a Premier League player.

The winger dropped down to the Championship last season but now wants to prove he can be consistent in the top flight.

Atsu had unsuccessful spells at Chelsea, Everton and Bournemouth before dropping into the second tier with the Magpies under the guidance of Rafa Benitez .

He said: “I think in the Premier League there is more quality. If you make one mistake you get punished so you have to concentrate.

“I’m very happy to be playing now and helping the team.

“For me the longer you play the more you learn in the Premier League.

“I’m trying to improve myself but also the team now. I was looking for my first Premier League goal and got it against Stoke so I was really glad.”

And speaking on team spirit since being promoted, Atsu added: “We’re very happy with three wins in a row. We lost the first two games so this shows we have a very strong mentality in the dressing room. We all want to improve everyday so we just need to keep working hard and improve the team.

“We are ambitious and have a strong mentality where we fight for each other. We support each other. That’s what we did in the Championship and what we will now do in the Premier League.”
