France had hoped the 34-year-old would be fit for the Les Bleus opener against Australia next week but the Ballon d’Or winner eventually succumbed to the injury, that forced him out of some games for Real Madrid.

The same French outlet has reported that there are a number of players in the running to replace the Real Madrid talisman, including Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.

Martial has struggled with injury issues this season but featured in United’s last three games before the international break.
