Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon may not play against Manchester United due to an ankle injury, says manager Eddie Howe. Miguel Almiron also remains out.

Newcastle United’s upcoming Premier League clash against Manchester United could potentially see the Magpies missing midfielder Anthony Gordon, according to the club’s head coach, Eddie Howe.

Gordon, who joined the Tyneside club on loan from Everton in January, has been on the sidelines for the past two matches due to an ankle injury. However, the international break may have helped the midfielder step up his recovery, according to Howe.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Howe stated that he was uncertain about Gordon’s availability for the upcoming match against the Red Devils. The player participated in a minor part of Wednesday’s training, and Howe is awaiting his response to the session before making a decision.

Howe said: “The break came at a good time for Anthony Gordon to improve on his injury and try to get him closer to returning. I think he used the time wisely.”

The Newcastle head coach was then asked whether he thinks that Gordon will be available for Sunday’s meeting with Man United.

“I don’t know the answer to that currently,” Howe replied.”He took part in a very small part in the training on Wednesday. So we will see how he responds to that today.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle will also be without the services of Paraguay international Miguel Almiron for a further four weeks, due to his ongoing injury.
