England were eliminated in the quarter-finals round as they suffered a defeat to France, who went on to reach the World Cup 2022 final for the second time in a row.

The current title holders will face Argentina in the Final on Sunday, December 18.

Lionel Scaloni’s side reached the final after celebrating a 3-0 victory over Croatia. Following the game, Maddison took to Twitter to react to Lionel Messi’s display as he scored one goal, provided an assist and was named the MOTM.

“Wasn’t sure whether I was going to watch the rest of the World Cup after we were eliminated… but how can you turn down the opportunity to watch Leo Messi when he can still play to that level at the age of 35. Honestly astonishing,” Maddison wrote.
