Ghana has a rich history in football and has gifted the world with many talented players through the years. Football is a significant part of their culture as the country’s citizens have a special passion for this sport.

Ghanaian football players are highly valued for their athleticism and skills, and many of them have enjoyed successful careers playing in the top five European professional leagues.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 best Ghanaian footballers who shine for their teams in domestic tournaments and at the European level.

1. Daniel Amartey

Amartey is considered one of the top Ghanaian footballers of his generation.

He has lifted the Premier League, FA Cup and English Super Cup trophies with Leicester City joining the Premier League club back in 2016.

Amartey is capable of playing in multiple positions, including right-back, center-back, and defensive midfielder.

2. Mohammed Kudus

Kudus is one of the most promising young talents of his generation in African football.

Making a move to the Dutch Eredivisie club Ajax in July 2020, the 22-year-old made an immediate impact at the club due to his technical skills, speed, and ability to read the game.

Kudus has been impressive for Ghana national team as well, since his debut in 2019, So far he has made 21 appearances, recording seven goals and three assists for his team.

3. Issahaku Fatawu

Fatawu caught the attention of scouts and fans after helping Ghana national team to win the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. It eventually saw him being named the Player of the Tournament.

Despite his young age, the midfielder has already been given his place in the senior national squad after earning his first call-up in September 2021.

Fatawu currently plays for the Portuguese giants Sporting.

4. Iñaki Williams

Williams is a Spanish attacker of Ghanaian descent who plays for La Liga club Athletic Bilbao.

He was a member of the Spanish national team since 2016, however, he decided to represent Ghana in the World Cup 2022.

Williams is a vital player in the team due to his ability to score goals from both wide and central positions.

5. Thomas Partey

Partey is widely regarded as one of the top African midfielders of his generation.

Being an academy player of Atlético Madrid, he gradually worked his way up to the first team from the club’s youth academy.

Now Partey plays for Arsenal. His physics, skills and tactical intelligence help to strengthen the team’s midfield.

6. Tariq Lamptey

As a Chelsea academy member, Lamptey became one of the most promising youngsters in the club, however, had to leave the club due to limited playing time.

In January 2020, he joined Brighton to make an instant impact at the Premier League club.

The right-back’s successful spell was interrupted by a number of injury setbacks, but he is still 22 years old and has a promising future.

7. Joseph Aidoo

Aidoo has all the important skills to be named one of the top Ghanaian defenders of his generation.

The African player helped Celta Vigo avoid relegation from La Liga in his first season at the cub.

Aidoo has represented Ghana at the international level, taking part in major tournaments.

8. Mohammed Salisu

Salisu quickly gained his name in Europe after joining the Spanish club Real Valladolid in 2019.

The 23-year-old right-back currently plays for the Premier League side Southampton and established himself as a regular starter in the team’s defense.

Salisu has been compared to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk, the former Saints defender who is considered one of the best center-backs in the world.

9. Alexander Djiku

Dijku is a Ghanaian defender, who is also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder, providing versatility to his team.

The 28-year-old has learned the best from football from his boyhood club SC Bastia B since 2012. Now he plays as a center-back for the French club RC Strasbourg.

Djiku has represented both France and Ghana at the international level.

10. Jeffrey Schlupp

Schlupp has been an academy player at Leicester City since 2010 and pushed himself to the first-team squad over the years.

He helped the Foxes to get promotion to the Premier League in the 2013-14 season and win the Premier League title in the 2015-16 season.

Schlupp is capable of playing in several positions, including left-back, left-wing, and central midfield. This helps him to be a key man in his current club Crystal Palace.
