Nigeria 1 Ghana 0: Black Meteors fall to Super Eagles in international friendly
Nigeria celebrate

Ghana's Black Meteors crashed to a 1-0 defeat against Nigeria before President John Mahama in an international friendly to played to mark the commission of the most magnificent Akwa Ibom Stadium in Uyo Stadium on Friday night.

Malik Jabir's boys fell to a Emem Eduok's 35th minute strike and were unable to fightback as the Local Super Eagles salvaged a win over their West African rivals.

It was a game well attended -  as Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan and his Ghanaian counterpart John Mahama were all among the spectators.

Though the Ghana side was not totally outplayed by the Nigerians, the inactivity of the Ghana Premier League told on them as they struggled to cope with their Nigerian counterparts.

Emem Eduok, the solitary goal-getter, translated his form from the Nigerian Premier League into the game. Eduok, has netted 20 times this season.

Nigeria assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi, took charge of the African champions in the absence of head coach Stephen Keshi, who only arrived in Uyo on the day of the match but was in the stands to watch his team.

It was the first time that Amokachi was in charge of a Nigerian team since guiding a set of players from the country's top flight to win the Wafu Cup in 2010.

Eduok caused problems for Ghana keeper Ishmeal and in the 28th minute shrugged off the challenge of Ishmeal, however, the Dolphins man could not apply the finish after the good job to find his way into Ghana's box.

But seven minutes later, Eduok found the target to give Nigeria the lead. The Dolphins winger planted in a header off Kwambe's tailored cross past Ofori, who was rooted to the spot.

Five minutes before the break, Ghana nearly got back into the game when captain and goalkeeper of the Super Eagles, Chigozie Agbim, flapped a Benjamin Agyare's cross. Samuel Afful failed to capitalise on that error.
