No decision yet on injured Michael Essien World Cup role

The Ghana FA has not taken a decision yet on whether to include injured Michael Essien to its backroom staff at the World Cup in South Africa next month.

Black Stars fans have been pushing for the idea during radio station phone-ins for the Chelsea star to be part of the Ghana contingent to the World Cup.

The GFA were also said to be toying with the role for Essien similar to what England plan to do with David Beckham and the role Stephen Appiah played at the 2008 Nations Cup.

But the Ghana FA spokesman Randy Abbye says no decision has been taken yet insisting that his recovery plans will be taken into consideration,

"We haven't gotten to that stage yet. No decision has been taken as to whether he will be there [World Cup] in any capacity,” Abbey said.

"For now, the most important thing is to allow him continue with his recovery programme which we are very concerned about."

Essien was ruled out of the World Cup and he is expected to return at the end of July by which time the tournament would have ended.
