The Ghana team doctors have confirmed to GHANAsoccernet.com Michael Essien did not pick up an injury during Friday's Nations Cup qualifier against Congo.

Head coach Goran Stevanovic pulled out the midfield powerhouse on 73 minutes for Derek Boateng, a situation which rarely happens to him at club and country.

The Cheslea ace had packed ice around his right knee after the match and it was speculated that he had aggravated and old injury.

"The pack of ice on his knee is nothing serious and just a routine procedure. I can say he's fit for the next game," A source told GHANAsoccernet.com

The 27-year-old was making a return to the Black Stars after an injury-induced one-year retirement.
