No time limit on appointment of new Ghana coach, Rajevac confirms exit

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has set no time limits on the appointment of a new coach for the Black Stars after Milovan Rajevac finally informed the federation of his decision to quit the post.

Rajevac finally did the decent thing by writing to the GFA on Monday to confirm his exit at Black Stars coach.

But the GFA expressed its disappointment over the Serbian’s decision not to extend his contract after he promised not to quit.

The federation has now started its search for a new coach for the Black Stars after meeting on Monday to consider their coaching options.

Rajevac refused to pick calls from the GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi after it emerged that the manager had signed a contract with Saudi side Al Ahly Jeddah.

He had promised to extend his stay as the coach of the Black Stars for the next four years after his contract expired on 17 August.

But he reneged on his promise last week and opted for the bumper offer from the Saudi club ending his two-year with Ghana.

Rajevac even denied reaching a deal with Al Ahly but after Ghanasoccernet picture of him smiling after signing the Saudi contract emerged there was no denying.

The Serbian has now written to the GFA to say he is no longer keen on coaching the Black Stars.

"The Ghana Football Association has officially been notified by Mr Milovan Rajevac of his desire to take up a fresh challenge elsewhere,” the Ghana FA said in statement.

"Mr Rajevac relinquishes his position as Head Coach of the Black Stars after two years.

“The Ghana Football Association would like to place on record our gratitude for his services and wish him all the best in his future career.

"Though we find his departure unfortunate after two years of great strides, we confirm that the search for a new coach has begun.”

The GFA has not placed a time limit on when the new permanent coach of the Black Stars would be named.

But assistant coach Akwasi Appiah who aided Rajevac in his excellent stint has been lined up as the stand-in coach if right boss is not found before next month’s African Cup of Nations clash with Sudan in Accra.

Rajevac joined the Black Stars in 2008 and guided the local side to silver at the maiden African Nations Championship in 2009, a competition reserved exclusively for local players.

He followed it up with a another final berth as Ghana were the losing finalist at the 2010 African Cup of Nations and five months later, led the Black Stars to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in South Africa.
