Non-league hotshot Kwesi Appiah to sign for Blackpool

One of the most exciting attacking prospects in non-league football is due in Blackpool on Thursday to meet Ian Holloway and sign a two-year deal.

Margate striker Kwesi Appiah has blasted 32 goals in 29 starts this season.

Watford, Portsmouth and a host of other Championship clubs had been trailing the 21-year-old but the Seasiders have jumped to the head of the queue by agreeing a £200,000 deal.

Appiah will arrive at Bloomfield Road on Thursday to meet with Holloway and the squad, then he and his advisors will discuss personal terms with chairman Karl Oyston.

Salif Rubie, Appiah’s representative, said: "Everything has been agreed between the two clubs.

"Myself and Kwesi are going to Blackpool to meet the manager and hopefully finalise everything.

"Kwesi is very excited at the challenge of playing in the Championship."

It will be a serious step up for Appiah, who is untested outside non-league circles. He came through the youth system at Ebbsfleet United and played for several clubs before joining Margate – who play in the Ryman Premier League, five levels below the Championship – last summer.

He has since averaged better than a goal a game, including three hat-tricks, and scouts have been flocking to watch him.

Appiah posted on his Twitter account: "Margate have agreed a deal with Blackpool.”

Going to meet the gaffer later in the week. Exciting stuff!"

Appiah's arrival doesn’t mean Holloway has dropped his interest in Fleetwood frontman Jamie Vardy.

Holloway remains a huge fan of the 25-year-old and negotiations with Town will continue.

But getting a deal done is likely to be tricky, especially with free-spending Leicester City rumoured have joined Vardy’s growing list of admirers.
