Nyantakyi close to Caf position after another withdrawal

Hima Souley is the latest candidate to withdraw from Wednesday's Caf Executive Committee elections in Sudan, handing  Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi a good chance of winning the post.

The decision by the ex-Niger FA boss means the West Africa B slot is now a two-horse race between Kwesi Nyantakyi and Benin FA boss Anjorin Moucharafou.

Souley was among the four candidates who applied to contest the position but Togolese Tata Avlessi withdrew last week to back Ghana's Nyantakyi.

"I am no longer in contesting the position," Souley said.

While many moderates see the Ghanaian as the man for the job, the Issa Hayatou-backed Anjorin is also formidable given the support he enjoys from the controversial Cameroonian leader.

The West Africa B position is vacant following the retirement Sey Memene of Togo.

Avlessi says after much consideration he has decided to step out of the race to back the Ghana FA boss.

Several other positions are up for grabs when the Caf elections are held during the continental government body's general assembly is held in Khartoum on Wednesday.
